How Wings Are Attached to the Backs of Angels - Craig Welch (1996)

Regular Canadian moviegoers are occasionally offered a rare treat. Just as Pixar (Toy Story, A Bug's Life) has been releasing its features with a preceding short, Canadian theatres will show a short NFB film before a feature once in a blue moon. I had the rare and unexpected chance to see "How Wings Are Attached To The Backs of Angels" before David Cronenberg's Crash. They complimented each other well. "How Wings..." is the fascinating story of how an old, wealthy inventor protects himself from the outside world while he works feverishly on his plan to surgically attach a pair of wings to the back of a woman he envisions as his angel. It is a remarkable and beautiful film - see it if you have the chance.
