Durante un transplante al corazón de Amos Klein, un poderoso e influyente hombre dedicado a la carrera militar, éste recuerda de manera retrospectiva los momentos más importantes de su vida. Cada recuerdo del personaje será correspondientemente recapitulado a partir de algún momento clave de la historia Israelí. 

Un film que, en un personaje arquetípico, condensa la belicosa e inestable situación en que el Estado Israelí se ha forjado desde su fundación.

Las técnicas de animación usadas en la elaboración del film son varias: comenzando por el dibujo sobre papel, además de escenas filmadas en live-action y fotomontaje de material de archivo.

"During a heart transplant operation, as he struggles between life and death, Amos Klein returns to siginificant landmarks over the course of his life. These correspond with key moments in Israeli history.His journey is a reflection of moral corruption, of militarism and indoctrination. 

The film is an allegory to the loss of innocence and compassion; it carries a powerful universal message regarding issues such as patriotism and individuality. While providing a historic and cultural context, the dictinct visual language allows for emotional insight into complex issues; As an animated documentary, the film utilizes technniques unique to the medium, incorporating stylized drawn animation with live-action and archive footage."

"The journey through Amos Klein’s past unfolds from the end to the beginning, using historic landmarks in Israeli culture and history. Amos Klein’s character although fictitious; is an archetype of a person corrupted by power. As a child Amos is forced to conform to the dictations of a militaristic environment, as he ages he looses his inadequacy along with his compassion. Amos Klein’s actions and choices define not only his character but the society which shaped him.

Howl - Natalie Bettelheim & Sharon Michaeli (2011)

Una relación madre e hijo, de un hijo particular. Una fabula por momentos de genero terror, pero reflexiva e inmensamente dulce y humana, como una madre. Moraleja: amar, comprender, compartir.

Bonito corto realizado por Natalie Bettelheim y Sharon Michaeli, como su proyecto de graduación en la Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. El minifilm nos cuenta la historia de la extraña relación que tiene una madre con su hija, el como la como madre va desarrollando compasión a este ser que siendo su sangre, aprende a amarla con todas sus diferencias y raros comportamientos.

Los tonos en blanco y negro, le dan un toque especial, que hacen que el corto sea una propuesta entretenida, que genera sentimientos de ternura y entendimiento en niveles emocionales interesantes.

This mother’s young daughter seems born of a different breed. She sips milk from the dog and catches birds with her teeth. The mother is frightened at first but eventually overcomes her fear and learns to love the little monster. It’s a touching story about finding a compassion for those we hold dear, even when we don’t understand them.

Natalie Bettelheim and Sharon Michaeli have crafted a beautiful atmosphere through subtle use of lighting and space. The compositions are minimal and well-controlled. The “camera” finds interesting angles to frame the action—each shot could be the page of a giant illustrated children’s book. It’s a minimalist black & white aesthetic that’s worked well in other recent short animations, Matter Fisher and My Mother’s Coat.

I admit, part of my fondness for the film is due to a familiarity with an old eskimo legend, Big Mouth Baby, about a baby born with a big snarled mouth. Of course, Big Mouth Baby ends with the child devouring its mother and then the entire village. I’m glad to see Howl end on a happy note.

Bitzbutz - Gil Alkabetz (1984)

Este cortometraje es una muestra de la constante lucha que existe, y ha existido desde siempre, entre opuestos; en este caso, entre el blanco, representado como una pequeña mancha con forma de ave, y el negro, representado como una gran mancha con forma de cánido. Film elaborado a partir de plastilina sobre una mesa de luz

"Juego entre lo positivo y lo negativo. De un cuadrado blanco salen un monstruo negro y un pájaro blanco. Los dos quieren hacerse con el control del territorio común. Su lucha acaba cuando se borran uno al otro.

Gil Alkabetz es un narrador poliédrico capaz de abordar los diferentes géneros con maestría. Sus animaciones nos proporcionan múltiples posibilidades visuales, que van desde el máximo contraste y un grafismo rotundo, en blanco y negro, a un gran cromatismo capaz de conectar con todos los públicos. Su sentido narrativo oscila entre el drama y la comedia con el mismo virtuosismo estilístico. Alkabetz es un observador de la vida y de los pequeños detalles que crea una obra experimental y creativa cargada de compromiso desde el humor y la ironía.

Animador, ilustrador y docente. Ha sido director del estudio Frame by Frame de Jerusalén y profesor en diferentes escuelas de Israel así como profesor visitante en la Escuela de Arte y Diseño de Lucerna, Suiza. Desde 1995 trabaja como animador independiente desde su estudio HomeSweetHome en Stuttgart (Alemania). Actualmente imparte clases en la HFF "Honrad Wolf" en Potsdam-Babelsberg y en la Filmakademie BW."
