Un niño teme al viento a partir de una serie de eventos traumáticos que marcaron esa relación desde su más temprana niñez. Junto a su fiel compañero canino, el niño se debatirá en una encrucijada que afrontará su miedo a volar, representado por el huracanado y constante viento.

"Walking my own hound once led to a broken wrist so I can appreciate Emiel Penders' account of the trials and tribulations of dog ownership. Finely drawn in 2D black and white, his 2005 movie, Angst, is the tale of André whose relationship with his dog causes him some distress and much joy, in a landscape dominated by a wind that scares the boy until his dog is in danger. Emiel's comic timing is a delight as the wind sweeps the characters up to the sky in a series of impossible situations. In Angst all those repressed fears that plague us are confronted and there is always a wet and smelly canine tongue to re-establish normality. The original movie was transformed into a sweet sounding music video by production company Caviar for Bunny. Emiel's website, where the movie may be viewed in full, offers the two alternatives. Personally, although I liked the music, I felt the sound of the original wind and barking necessary to fully appreciate the story. Other movies on his site include at least one other canine treat."

Un divertido y absurdo cortometraje que muestra los infructuosos y surreales intentos del hombre para volar. Este es el segundo film animado del artista, seguido por el cortometraje "The story of time" (1968), obra marcada por el inconfundible estilo propio del autor, estilo que desarrollaría a profundidad mediante breves sketches animados que introduciría entre los episodios de la serie humoristica "Flying Circus" producida por el grupo de comediantes "Monty Phyton" a principios y mediados de los 70.

"Terry Gilliam (Terence Vance Gilliam) nació en la localidad de Medicine Lake, en Minnesota, pero a los diez años de edad se trasladó a California. Tiene un hermano y una hermana menor. Su padre, un antiguo miembro de la caballería estadounidense, era representante de comercio reconvertido en carpintero que, debido al asma que padecía su hija, decidió marcharse, junto a su esposa y sus hijos, al soledado estado norteamericano para apaciguar allí el estado de salud de su pequeña.

Después de terminar el instituto en el año 1958, Terry estudió Ciencias Políticas en la Occidental College de California, en donde editó la publicación “Fang” y colaboró como dibujante en la revista “Mad”.

Más tarde se trasladó a Nueva York, trabajando con éxito para la revista “Help!”. En esta época conoció al actor inglés John Cleese.

Cuando la revista “Help” cerró, Gilliam, intentando evitar su incorporación a la Guerra del Vietnam, se unió a la Guardia Nacional durante breve tiempo. Después dejó Nueva York por Los Angeles y finalmente en 1967 se marchó al Reino Unido, colaborando con el “Sunday Time Magazine” y “The Londoner”.

Por mediación de Cleese, Terry terminó uniéndose en 1969 al grupo Monty Python y a su popular programa “Flying Circus”, siendo el único integrante no británico del grupo.

Su capacidad para la animación y su imaginación visual fueron claves en la trayectoria como cineasta de Terry Gilliam.

Su primer trabajo como director cinematográfico fue la realización de un corto de animación titulado “Storytime” (1968), título continuado por otro cortometraje llamado “The Miracle of Flight” (1974). Por esta época también escribió guiones de comedia para diversas emisiones televisivas como “Do not adjust your set”. (...)"

"Although it looks like a Monty Python animation, 1974′s The Miracle of Flight was actually a side project of the director’s that detailed the twisted adventures of man seeking flight. When jumping off cliffs and flapping “wings” didn’t help, Gilliam posits that man sought the assistance of birds, and eventually became guinea pigs in the quest for air travel when a 1643 king pushed men off a tower to their deaths. By the advent of airplanes, man still couldn’t get it right. The animation presents one of many off-the-cuff absurdities that Gilliam became famous for."

As a side project to Monty Python, one might want to critique the Miracle of Flight in comparison to the even shorter animation sketches in the Python episodes. But it's actually one of Gilliam's most hilarious and successfully tasteless inventions, where a running gag is not taken lightly, and the old adage 'if at first you don't succeed, try try again' is taken literally against all odds. We're given the history of man seeking flight, however not by the channels of 'do-it-yourself': men jump off of cliffs while trying to flap their arms, be them in armor or other outfits. Even with the assistance of birds, it doesn't help, as the birds go in the blink of an eye to dart at the crumbs scattered by an old lady. Then, of course, is the true highlight of the episode, where a king in 1643 gets people on top of the tower, and proceeds to kick all of them off to their deaths in attempting flight. By the end, of course, man has sought flight through airlines (Spam-Air on one of the ticket stubs), yet as a man tries to enter the airplane, he falls off the tower all over again. Nothing truly of intellectual significance happens here, but that's exactly, brilliantly how Gilliam achieves his goal of perfected crudeness. (...)"

The Dirdy Birdy - John R. Dilworth (1994)

Un desfigurado pájaro se enamora perdidamente de una indiferente gata; la enamorada ave va en constante búsqueda de su amada, sin embargo ella lo recibe con bastante repulsión. Delirante y divertida historia de un amor un destructivo.

La obra de este animador estadounidense destaca y divierte por el absurdo expresado constantemente, ese absurdo presente en la estética misma y cuyo alcance llega hasta la narrativa. Basta con ver otra de sus grandes obras, Life in Transition (2005), para poder apreciar cierta evolución en este manejo del absurdo surreal, llegando casi hasta matices dalinianos.

THE DIRDY BIRDY toured with Spike & Mike's "Festival of Animation" and "Sick & Twisted Festival." It was also selected to screen with the 35-city LOLLAPALOOZA SUMMER TOUR music festival in 1995 and opened for several feature films, among them, "CRUMB."  The Venice Film Festival has placed a print of THE DIRDY BIRDY in their permanent archive.

The film was featured on MTV's debut of "Cartoon Sushi," a series that highlights the best in independent animation. It has been broadcast in Spain, France, Belgium, Finland, Germany, and Australia; as well as screening in theaters throughout Europe.
