Mourir auprès de toi es el primer cortometraje de animación en stop-motion realizado por el cineasta estadounidense Spike Jonze, en colaboración con el director francés Simon Cahn, para la marca de la creadora parisina Olympia Le-Tan. En esta primera incursión en el mundo de la moda, Jonze nos presenta una bella historia de amor entre Mina, la novia de Drácula, y el esqueleto de Macbeth, una especie de tragicomedia que mezcla delicadas imágenes antiguas con un cierto toque moderno.

Mourir auprès de toi (To Die By Your Side) is the first stop-motion animation short realized by the American director Spike Jonze, in collaboration with the French filmmaker Simon Cahn, for the brand of the Parisian creative Olympia Le-Tan. In this first incursion in the world of fashion, Jonze presents us a beautiful love history between Mina, Dracula's girlfriend, and Macbeth's skeleton, a kind of tragicomedy that mixes delicate old images with a certain modern touch.

Una mujer en coma flota en un espacio blanco, inmaculado. De repente, su cuerpo empieza a alterarse, aparecen unas formas orgánicas que van en aumento y llenan la pantalla. Comienza entonces la exploración de este cuerpo en mutación, del cual van a surgir las imágenes de un accidente.

Es la primera película animada del director Cristóbal De Oliveira. El cual nos muestra con impresionantes efectos y formas de belleza sobrenatural la lucha entre la vida y la muerte. La mujer en estado de coma ha decidido suicidarse, pero su cuerpo que ya no le pertenece a ella, es parte de la naturaleza y se defiende con todas sus fuerzas. El cuerpo de una mujer flotando en estado de coma por un área blanca, inmaculada. De repente, el cuerpo comienza a cambiar y formas de plantas crecen fuera de ella, se enredan y, finalmente llenan toda la zona. Un viaje al interior del cuerpo empieza a aparecer, y las imágenes de un accidente de coche. La mujer quiere dejarse ir y sumergirse en el nuevo estado, pero su cuerpo instintivamente se aferra a la vida.

The body of a young woman floating in a coma by a white, pristine area. Suddenly, the body begins to change and plant forms grow out of it, becoming tangled and eventually meet the entire area. A journey into the interior of the body begins to appear, and the images of a car accident. The woman wants to let go and plunge into the world under her, but her body instinctively clings onto life.

"Float" is the first animated film by director Cristobal De Oliveira. The film was produced by Nicolas Schmerkin, the founder of "Autour de Minuit," who was also at the Oscar winner "Logorama" responsible for the production.

Christobal de Oliveira shows with impressive effects and unearthly beautiful forms of the struggle between life and death. The woman in a coma has chosen to commit suicide, but her body that no longer belongs to her, is part of nature and defends himself with all his might.

"It’s really amazing how many talented young people are coming from Gobelins, the French animation school. This animated short called ‘Who’s Afraid of Mr Greedy?’ tells the tale of a daring man trying to get what’s his back from the evil Mr. Greedy. It’s so extremely well done, especially the character design, each one being a well thought out being. I also loved the color palette, which at first consists of pale, deathly blues, but then you see these orange-y reds popping in, becoming more menacing. A huge congrats to the whole team (...)"

Un cuento escrito y animado por Laguionie y Kali en el que mismísimo Diablo es engañado en un juego de domino, quedando en ridículo por completo.

Un juego de dómino entre una anciana y el diablo. Si gana, volverá a ser joven y bella. Si pierde, su alma arderá en el infierno. Un cuento francés muy bien narrado y pintado, con influencias del surrealismo, el arte naif y la animación clásica europea.

Uno de esos cortos que nunca me canso de ver. Es inevitable ver la influencia de Paul Grimault (quien hizo incursionar a Laguionie en la animación). El encanto del francés bien hablado, claras influencias del movimiento naïf y René Magritte; y ese sabor a los grandes relatos de Vincent Price, que lo mantienen a uno hipnotizado hasta el último segundo de la obra. Imperdible por donde se lo mire. Laguionie es uno de mis animadores de culto.

Nacido en 1939 en Besançon, Francia, estudió artes aplicadas y trabajó junto al animador Paul Grimault. Dirigió cortos como La Traversée de l’Atlantique à la rame (1978; Palma de Oro en Cannes), y los largometrajes Gwen et le livre de sable (1985), Le Château des singes (1995) y L’Ile de Black Mor (2003).

Jean-François Laguionie

Born a Besançon in 1939 he studied graphics and worked in theatre as actor. At Annecy he discovered animation through meeting Paul Grimault, the legendary French animator, who loaned the young Laguionie his animation equipment and with whom he developed a technique of animation with pieces of paper. His first film "La demoiselle et le violoncelliste" won the Grand Prix at the Festival of Annecy on 1965. Fifteen years later he was awarded the Palm d'Or at Cannes for "La traversée de l'Atlantique à la rame". He has produced some of the most exquisitely rendered animation in all of Europe: Laguionie’s animation examines familiar myths and uses fairy tale narratives to explore the differences between reality and illusion. Critically acclaimed and award winning, his work has been described as a kinetic combination of “naïf painting and René Magritte.”

Un cortometraje que esquematiza de forma humorística la lógica maquinal interna, imposibilitada de autosuficiencia y de escape, del "adicto", por así decirlo (la traducción al español de accro es cocainómano). Film elaborado por tres talentosos estudiantes de la Esnad: Marie Opron, Léonard Cohen  y David Martin.

"La Ensad (École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs o Escuela superior de artes decorativas existe desde ¡¡1766!!) es otra escuela francesa más que nos sorprende con los trabajos en equipo de sus estudiantes.

Accro en francés significa falopero y este corto tematiza la lógica interna del falopero, inserto en mecanismos autosuficientes, en donde el afuera está invalidado por la totalidad que significa el adentro.

Está realizado con crayón, en blanco y negro y es estupendo."
